So What Were YOU Doing...

Mon Mar 24, 2008, 4:25 PM
... this Spring Break? Me? I was having way too much fun in Mexico. This was my third year going on a trip with my church youth group down to Mexico for the week of spring break. My first two years were pretty good, but this year was AMAZING! I've already uploaded some of my favorite pictures to my gallery (that's your cue to check them out XD) but while pictures may be worth a thousand words... on this trip it was "Quotes speak a million words".

A tradition I started last year was writing down everything that was funny that I knew would trigger a memory of the trip. This year I got my whole team (32 people) on it and we've gathered over six pages of quotes compared to the three I had from the year before.

Another thing that was great about this year was I gained the titles of "Depression", "Holy Crap You Read Fast", and "Trivia Master". Before you jump to conclusions, the nickname of "Depression" comes from a dramatic skit a group of us preformed. There are many versions of this skit on youtube already, you can just look up "Lifehouse-Everything" and you'll probably see a lot. Our team did it slightly different than the original, but the idea is the same. I was the last one to get a part and of course, I got *drum roll* DEPRESSION! I was the most hyperactive person when it came to drama that everyone laughed at the thought of me playing that part. Then they saw me act. It went from "are you sure you can do this part?" to "oh my god, you're so creepy!". I'm proud of this fact. The nick name finally stuck when during a late-night practice where I put my air soft gun prop to my head and proclaimed happily: I'M DEPRESSION! Before "shooting myself" and falling dramatically to the floor.

The second nickname came from my ability to read in the car without getting car sick and also being able to read a 600+ page book in the (very) few hours of free time I had. This book was "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown. Then after finishing that book, I read 75+ pages of my current reading: The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl. Both are amazing... read them now. :p

The last nick name came from my vast collection of useless knowledge. It all started with a game of "Battle of the Sexes" when the question: "Patriot Games" is a movie based off of a novel by what author.
Tom Clancy, duh. (Another good book... go read!)
Apparently this wasn't obvious to the other girls playing. *sigh* After that it was: Who was the pilot of "The Spirit of St. Louis?"
Charles Lindbergh, obviously.
Apparently not so obvious to my teammates who (five minutes after me being announced correct) stated in a triumphant tone: The Wright Brothers! *facepalm*
My reign as "knower of (supposedly) useless facts" still continues today.

  • Mood: Caring
  • Listening to: Pretty Handsome Awkward-- The Used
  • Reading: The Dante Club (Everyone read it now!)

We don't cry for the gods that die by our hands.
We throw stones if our gods take a stand.
We create and destroy our stigmata martyrs.
